13th - 15th JULY - HOMECOMING OF MYLNE CLASSIC YACHTS

Many of these beautiful vessels were built on the island, and we are delighted that the Regatta will be based around the island as part of our Homecoming celebrations.

The fleet will arrive at Rothesay on Monday 13th July. The Isle of Bute Sailing Club, in association with Bute Sons and Daughters, will host an evening event in honour of the fleet.

On Tuesday 14th the fleet will cruise northwards through the Kyles of Bute, with a sail past and salute at the Bute Slip Dock Yard at Ardmaleish Point, birthplace of many of the vessels. This will be followed by a Round Bute Race. The fleet will remain at Rothesay on the Tuesday evening.

Wednesday 15th will see a race round Great Cumbrae, followed by an evening reception at Mount Stuart before returning to the Royal Northern and Clyde Yacht Club the next day.

At each stage of the event the public will be invited to visit the assembled fleet, and we hope that at least one yacht will be moored in Rothesay Harbour so that visitors can ask questions and have a closer look. Yachts from all four home nations will be taking part, as well as yachts coming from as far afield as Norway and interest from yachts based in France, Spain, Italy and the Caribbean.

SUNDAY 23rd AUGUST - ERIC BOGLE HOMECOMING CONCERT AT ROTHESAY PAVILION

We are delighted to welcome famous singer/songwriter Eric Bogle to Rothesay as part of his 'Waltzing Matilda No More' tour. Eric will be supported by his long-term partner in music, John Munro. Born in Peebles, Eric Bogle epitomises homecoming, as he left Scotland for a new life in Australia in the 1960s and has lived there ever since, although he has toured extensively for the last 25 years.

Eric has written hundreds of songs, some of which have become Australian classics. Probably his best known song is “The Band Played Waltzing Matilda”, but many of his other songs - “No Man's Land”(The Green Fields of France), “Leaving Nancy”, “Now I'm Easy”, “Shelter” , to name a few, are widely known.
His songs have been recorded by Joan Baez, Mary Black, Donovan, Slim Dusty, John Williamson, Billy Bragg, The Pogues and The Furies, just to name a few.

He has also won quite a few awards along the way including the Order of
Australia medal for services to the entertainment industry, and a Peace medal from the U.N. for his efforts, through music, to promote peace and racial harmony.

Eric Bogle is not just a literate and thoughtful songwiter who can cut to the heart of the matter with some well-crafted lines.....he's also a warm and engaging stage performer who, with his sharp, often self-deprecating wit and shrewd common sense view on the world, communicates well with an audience and draws them in to his performance.

Local talented musicians Acousticrat will open this special concert, and we are sure it will be an unforgettable night. This is also the weekend of the Bute Highland Games, so we are particularly delighted to host this special concert at this time.

Tickets £10 available from: Rothesay Pavilion (tel: 01700 504250), Port Bannatyne Post Office, or email Bute Sons and Daughters to reserve (info@butesonsanddaughters.co.uk).
